Animal Internal Medicine was founded in 2021 and is directed and operated by Dr. Lauren Sikorski, DVM, diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM).

Dr. Sikorski completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania and she has been practicing referral medicine since 2008. Dr. Sikorski’s clinical interest and experience spans all aspects of internal medicine.

While some internists prefer a certain field of study, regardless of the subject, Dr. Sikorski is thrilled with the challenge of reaching a difficult diagnosis with minimal diagnostics. Moreover, for many clients, an affordable diagnosis and treatment plan are paramount and way too often in veterinary medicine, a matter of life and death. By working as a mobile clinician, she is able to connect with many more patients and bring affordable medicine to your pet in the comfort of your local veterinary hospital.

Lauren grew up in Connecticut and attended Rollins College. She was awarded a degree in English Literature with a minor in French. After college, she worked on an environmental schooner, a sailboat dedicated to teaching environmental education to students of all ages.

Though Lauren’s degree was in literature, having grown up on the rocky coast of CT, she was perfectly in tune to its critters and their habitats and could share her knowledge with ease. When the sailing season ended, Lauren moved on to the Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk and worked as a grant manager for “Girls in Science.” The goal of the grant was to bring science to girls in underserved communities in Connecticut.

Though the dichotomy of degree vs clinical work experience was odd, it can be easily explained. Due to her severe asthma and allergies as a child, Lauren never considered a veterinary career. She was personally thrilled and shocked when she could comfortably be around pets without a sneeze or wheeze –hence, she grew out of her allergies!

As a veterinary internist, she now lives in Oakdale, New York with her husband (Chris), sphynx cat (Raison d’être) and kangal dog (Old Deuteronomy). When not catering to her sphynx, Lauren is an avid gardener and flower researcher. In fact, she recently started a cut flower bouquet company called SOW Local!
